Barimé is a ricochet. Ricochets are magical entities created automatically by human wand users when they use magic for the first time. A ricochet exists to balance the magic of their wand user.
As all ricochets Barimé can shape shift. Her body is made entirely of magical particles which individually are not conscious but together, like the neurons in a human brain, form her body and mind.
These particles are a ricochet’s body. While in a corporal shape Barimé’s body has not magically become flesh and blood; her magic particles are still particles however she is manipulating their positions relative to each other to appear solid.
Barimé can separate her mass of particles into complicated forms like realistic human hair, free flowing fabric, or she can even split some of her body into physically detached forms.
A ricochet can not see light or color directly. They use telekinesis, the same force which allows them to manipulate the shape of their body, to probe their environment and “see” by feeling everything. Barimé can infer colors of nearby objects or people through a special concentration of her particles and their interactions with each other, however she can not truly see color or light like a human can.
Ricochets can also fly using their telekinesis, throw objects, and manipulate other people in the room. A ricochet’s intelligence and physical strength are based on their total mass, and their mass is decided by the wand at their moment of creation based on the potential of the human using it. A more dangerous or evil person intending to use magic heavily will result in a more massive Ricochet to counter him/her.
As Elizabeth was the first child to ever use the wand she presented a massive unknown to the world with a potential for chaos unlike anything seen before. Accordingly Barimé is, at over 1700 kg, the most powerful ricochet ever. Although she does not know this at the beginning of the story.
