FASP ARTIST

One time Freelance work, by the gig with no obligations to continue past a single drawing.

A “FASP” artist (Fan Art Stimulus Package) is someone who gets hired on a single project at a time, usually for individual drawings but sometimes comic pages.

Typically FASP artists work in waves, called a “FASP round”, with the best artist being selected for future work as a “Top Rated FASP Artist”. A FASP artist can be hired at any time, though.

To be a FASP artist you must meet these requirements:

1. At least 18 years old

2. Has a PayPal account

3. Some proficiency in drawing

4. Conversational in English

In addition to the requirements above, you must have access to a digital device. Traditional media drawings may be accepted, but you will still need a computer or smart device able to scan and send the artwork; pictures of paper drawings are not acceptable. Digital drawings are always preferred.

ALL FASP ARTISTS MUST AGREE TO CERTAIN TERMS, INCLUDING HOW THE CU MAY USE THE WORK, WHETHER OR NOT SOURCE FILES WILL BE INCLUDED, ETC. BEFORE WORK BEGINS.

Additionally, “Top Rated” FASP Artists also get:

• A special place on the Staff & Crew page, with your self drawn headshot image and 500 characters to say anything you want.

• Higher likelihood of further work opportunities in the future.

Discord is fundamental to our workflow at the Candy Universe, however FASP artists may use email or Sugar’s Twitter for communication if they wish. They may also use Fiverr if that is your prefered platform.

GUEST ARTIST

Small projects, typically 20 to 30 comic pages, with opportunities to move up to staff.

A Guest Artist is someone assigned to a short term project, usually a mini series comic for this website, with an expectation to complete the agreed project.

Guest Artists may stop at one mini series or continue if they wish, but they must finish a project once they agree to accept it, or issue a partial refund for the work they have done if they are forced to abandon the work.

To be a Guest artist you must meet these requirements:

1. At least 18 years old

2. Has a PayPal account

3. Good proficiency in drawing

4. Conversational in English

5. Owns Adobe Photoshop, or uses a different drawing program able to export work in layered .PSD format.

6. Ability to meet deadlines, with flexibility if discussed in advance.

7. Uses Discord

In addition to the requirements above, you must have access to a digital device. Digital drawings are a must for any mini series unless specifically agreed upon in advance.

ALL GUEST ARTISTS MUST AGREE TO CERTAIN TERMS. MINISERIES COMICS ALWAYS INCLUDE SOURCE FILES AND FULL RIGHTS FOR SALE OR REUSE IN MERCHENDISE, WITH A PREDEFINED ROYALTY STRUCTURE FOR THE ARTIST.

• Special Guest Artist role on our Discord server

• Access to the #employees-only channel on our Discord server, where future gigs may be posted and members of the community may post requests for artwork they want to commission.

• Ability to freely advertise your own work or commission services within our Discord server

• A special place on the Staff & Crew page, with your self drawn half body portrait and 1000 characters to say anything you want.

• Opportunities for promotion to Staff Member position.

• Occasional small gifts while working on a project, like a free month of a streaming service, or a month of Nitro, etc, at the discretion of Sugar.

• Limited Moderation rights on the server w/o a Duty of Care.

• NEW! Japanese Snack Boxes, sent in the mail as one time gifts for extreme awesomeness.

Discord is fundamental to our workflow at the Candy Universe. You will be expected to provide regular updates on your work in Discord DMs with Sugar, and you will be expected to participate in occasional group activities with the Staff, including voting on contests, group critiques, etc. You are not expected to participate in public discourse on the server, but it is highly appreciated. Especially when fans ping you directly with questions or comments about your series.

Once you complete a project you may leave without starting a new project, but it is hoped that you will stick around and participate in the community.

STAFF MEMBER

Long term projects, potentially spanning multiple years, with consistent work every week.

A Staff Member is someone assigned to a long term project, usually an entire comic book or multiple books in series which may span several years before completed.

Staff make a commitment to a series, agreeing to work on the series until it is complete, with a minimum number of pages they promise to release each week/month. They may also be asked to work on bonus comic pages for Twitter or other uses, as well as model sheets, promotional material, contest material, and other things as needed.

To be a Staff Member you must meet these requirements:

1. At least 18 years old

2. Has a PayPal account

3. Proficient in drawing

4. Conversational in English

5. Owns Adobe Photoshop, or uses a different drawing program able to export work in layered .PSD format.

6. Ability to meet deadlines, with flexibility if discussed in advance.

7. Uses Discord

8. Able to accept a long term commitment

9. Can dedicate at least 10 hours a week to the CU

10. Willing to chat with the fans on the server and participate in server wide events.

In addition to the requirements above, you must have access to a digital device. Digital drawings are a must for any full series.

All Staff Members must agree to a special license negotiated in private.

• Access to the #employees-only channel on our Discord server and Staff specific conversations.

• Ability to freely advertise your own work or commission services within our Discord server

• A special place on the Staff & Crew page, with your self drawn full body portrait and 2500 characters to say anything you want.

• Occasional small gifts while working, at the discretion of Sugar. Past examples include 3 months of the “Sundance Now” streaming service; 8 weeks of any “Shaw Academy” online college course; and a subscription to any of 12 physical magazines about anime, drawing, animation, etc.

• Full Moderation rights on the server w/o a Duty of Care.

• Annual bonus check, aka “Christmas Check”.

• NEW! Japanese Snack Boxes, sent in the mail as one time gifts for extreme awesomeness.

Additionally, the following extra benefits may be offered to staff on a one by one basis, with priority to those of the highest seniority:

• PTO for staff vacation, based on artist productivity and tenure.

• A custom stuffed plush (30”/75cm) of your favorite CU character

• A set of 1 on 1 animation lessons with Sugar, broken into sections (2D animation).

• Annual Discord Nitro subscription

• Special funding for new equipment, such as a new tablet or new display, or new software used for drawing.
