Core Lore: Who is Candy?
Who is Candy? This is the Candy Universe, so it would seem like she’d be important, right? Candy is the first character I created, and the main character of this IP. She’s about 10 years old in appearance, though she’s actually only a few years old by the time the comics start up. How? Because Candy doesn’t grow or age, she’s not even human. She is literal candy.
Her hair is a special form of cotton candy. Her skin is rolled fondant, and not even part of her body. She actually applies it to her body each day, removing it as needed to be replaced with a new layer. Those cones in her hair are not wolf ears or robot antennae, they are actually snow cones she uses to style her hair (just the paper part). Under her skin is a hard candy shell, like an exoskeleton, which keeps her gooy sugar insides, well, inside. Simple fondant skin would not be enough, she would lose shape and leak.
She does have organs, and a biology of sorts, although it’s unique to her. Her physiology is very odd, but it works for her, with all that sugar! She does not need to eat food for sustenance; her life and movements are powered off the sugar that makes up her body. She does need sugar and water to replace what she loses from things like sweat or tears, but that’s it.
Candy’s skin takes about 15 minutes to apply. Without it she looks a tad bit smaller than usual, since her body is designed with the intention that a fondant skin be applied.
She must also remove her skin once it’s warn. She can do this by showering, or by peeling it off. She may also allow it to fall off on it’s own over a few hours near the end of the day.
As you can see, her joints in the hard shell allow her to bend and flex in the same ways a normal child could. She doesn’t have any sexual organs, and she can not produce a child, even if she somehow met another like her. Her skin often has some details she molds herself, like the nipples, so clothing fits normally and she doesn’t appear to be different.
Candy has to change her skin, because it gets sticky and dirty over the day and it can’t be easily washed.
Candy doesn’t just eat sugar and water though. She also loves candy! That’s not cannibalism though, any more than it is for a human to eat pork.
She can be injured, just like you or me. She heals too, like you or me. An arm chopped off won’t grow back, but cracked hard shell or bones do heal like your bones would heal.
You may wonder, do people ever eat Candy? Yes! Eating her skin is ok, because that is not part of her body. It doesn’t hurt. Tears, spit, sweat, etc. would also be ok. But eating her hard shell or beyond would be painful, and cause damage to her body. This sort of snack might be fun for you, since she does taste amazing, but it is very painful for Candy. Here are two examples, one where a friend is tasting her with consent, and one where she is being eaten alive. 😲
Candy is 51 lbs, with long hair, over 2 feet long! Here are some comparisons of her vs Jessica and Elizabeth.
I could go on all day about Candy. I think I’ll save some details for their own blog posts, this should be a good introduction for the character. Just for fun, here is how Candy would look if she wore the super crown:
