ANNOUNCEMENTS: Art for good
The Candy Universe believes in helping the community and supporting charity whenever a good opportunity presents itself. We don’t do this just to brag, it’s a part of our core values. That said, this post is here to act as a snapshot of what all we’ve done so far; a reference point for the future as we continue to grow and increase our potential impact.
BLOOD DRIVES
So far the CU has run two blood drives on Twitter, where we offer to draw custom artwork of our own characters or OCs of the fan’s creation in exchange for a blood donation receipt. You can see the more recent one here. 3 fans have donated, which may not seem like a lot, but needles are scary! And we had fewer than 1000 followers on Twitter when each of these promotions were run. Imagine how many more fans might donate in the future when we have even more reach! Those 3 donations could go on to save as many as 9 lives, and we have our fans to thank for that. We plan to launch a new blood drive sometime next year, hopefully when we surpass 20k followers.
REACT DONATIONS
A few times now we have run “reaction donations” on our Discord server, where every fan who reacted to a specific message with an emote equaled $1 donated by Sugar to a matched fund, or 1 mask donated during COVID-19, totaling 600 masks donated to hospitals, and $483 donated to Feeding America.
SPONSOR A CHILD
As mentioned in this Tweet the toy company we partner with to produce our custom Elizabeth and Torbeth plush toys is offering a deal where they will make a custom toy for a sick child based on that child’s drawings. We’ve opened an offer to all our comic artists where every page the make for free for the CU will equal one child sponsored by the CU (a $129 value). So far Francis has offered to donate 3 free pages, and thus 3 free toys to children, and this blog post will be updated if any other artists also take part.
Hopefully the Candy Universe will continue to grow its reach and fan base, which will enable even larger and more impactful opportunities to do good. And just maybe, some day, we can look back at this post and compare these shy attempts to our massive donations and similar outreach of the future.
